Well, they don’t call me the Completely Innocuous and Innocent Shipper. 😀

I really like the idea of Starscream/Tarn – I mean, they already have a deeply contentious relationship because, well, Megatron, and the List, and the… treachery, and all.  And they’re both intelligent and insecure and have both made themselves into more than what the world believed a couple of nobodies could become.  I think they think they’re polar opposites, but actually, what gets them snarling at one another is really how similar they are.

Lord, I never even thought of Tarn and Starscream fighting over Pharma and that idea is hilarious. My initial thoughts would be this au taking place earlier in the war before Pharma is even at Delphi, but dang your idea works too. :’) Extra points if Tarn and Starscream both end up with legitimate feels for the doc they’re trying to manipulate into joining their cause bc I’m admittedly a fan of cheesy tropes like that.

I think they might very well end up catching feelings (I like that idea, too!).  Tarn is finding leadership a bit lonely, after all, and Starscream is no doubt hurting for someone to engage with whom he considers at his level.  I think they’d both resist the idea (as Pharma would no doubt resist any softer feelings towards them, at first!) but over time, as the game plays out, it becomes less of a game…

Do you have any theories about why Hasbro is trying so hard to push Bumblebee? Putting him in the forefront of Robots in Disguise, Transformers: Cyberverse, releasing his own live action movie…what’s extra weird is I don’t see transformer fans clamoring for more media with Bumblebee in it.

I guess I don’t see this as that unusual?  I think it might feel like a lot because there are a lot of new series coming out in pretty quick succession, but Bumblebee’s been the face of the brand since at least 2007.  He was always very much the focal point of the Bayverse merchandising and advertising (even as his role in the films kind of dwindled); TFA similarly promoted him a lot (and gave him the all-important role of Cybertronian Who Befriends The Main Child Character); and even though his role in Prime wasn’t massive, he was still on a lot of the advertising for that.  And the joke about how every shop shelf has fifteen Bumblebees to every one of any other character certainly isn’t new. 🙂

As for the reasoning, I think you’re right that it’s not necessarily fans clamoring for more Bee.  I’m betting it’s less to do with existing fans (especially older/adult fans) and more to do with the push to get in new, younger viewers, which Hasbro has always liked to hinge on a bright, friendly kid-appeal character, ever since Bumblebee ended up the breakout star of G1.  Granted, I think the role used to bounce around more than it does now – between characters like Hot Rod and Cheetor and Hot Shot – whereas now they’ve really settled on Bumblebee.

Is it wrong that after reading ROM vs Transformers I really want to ship that version of Magnus and Bumblebee? I wonder if there is any fanart or fic out there for it.

That version of Magnus and Bee have SERIOUS chemistry together.  And I mean, hey, the fact that Magnus told Bumblebee about the armour when it’s supposed to be this massive secret restricted to High Command is pretty huge.  I know Bee says, “People tell me things,” like it’s not a big deal, but there’s opening up and then there’s spilling state secrets.  I have to think they’re pretty close to one another.

WELP.

If you haven’t heard, Tumblr’s now banning adult content from 17 December. Because I guess they decided the only sensible and proportionate solution was BURN EVERYTHING.

Now, allegedly, text isn’t included in the ban, and the current announcement says erotica will continue to be okay to post.  Honestly, I’m unwilling to gamble on Tumblr not eventually either screwing up their algorithm or making a deliberate policy change, so I will probably be doing some pruning (of text as well as images) over the next couple weeks.  (Fic that’s been posted here is either already up on AO3 or shortly will be, don’t worry!)

Oh no is it bad that my immediate thought was what if Tarn and Starscream were /both/ trying to convert him at the same time and it became a competition. (obviously the timeline makes no sense but)

IT IS NOT BAD AT ALL I LOVE IT. 😀  I am just itching to see Tarn and Starscream compete in general, and the idea of them competing over Pharma is delicious.  I think Tarn would get so frustrated, like, Starscream already has Lord Megatron’s attention and immunity from the List (NOT that he deserves either), and now he’s trying to take Tarn’s toys (and sources of nuke/t-cogs) away?  And Starscream would probably be bewildered to start with – “Why does this single Autobot even matter to you, you cannot just swan around the galaxy collecting Autobots to have contentious flirtations with even if you did used to be one yourself, you pretentious badge-faced creep -” but then it would sink in how much he could use this to torment Tarn.  Because if Pharma eventually switched allegiances because of Starscream, that would take him out of Tarn’s orbit and be a victory Starscream could rub in Tarn’s face in front of Megatron.  And oh yes.  Starscream would enjoy that.  Starscream would enjoy that a LOT.

Now I’m sort of spinning this out further, like, what if this was a little ways further back during the war, and Starscream was stuck at/near Messatine as a punishment (the way he’s stuck on Earth at the beginning of Infiltration)?  Starscream makes yet another power grab, and Megatron tells him to go take a unit and set up on Messatine.  It’s nicely remote and freezing cold enough that delicate flyers are going to be miserable at least 80% of the time.  Yes, it’s the DJD’s home turf, and Tarn will be pissed, but hey, Tarn’s getting too big for his britched anyway, this may be just what he needs.  Starscream needs a win to get back in Megatron’s good graces and off this damned planet.  Tarn needs a way of re-asserting control and showing off how much better a subordinate he is than Starscream.  Their respective units are taking bets on who’s going to try to murder whom first.

And then Pharma’s brought in as the new head of the Delphi facility.

I think it would be fascinating.  Especially since these are two mechs who are so, so good at manipulation.  Seducing people to the Decepticon side was Starscream’s actual role before the war, and Tarn is no slouch at wrapping people around his finger, either.  Pharma would definitely know something was weird, but it’d take a while to figure out exactly how and why each side was trying to use him.

And then Pharma would enter the fray, and he’s not exactly a newbie at manipulating people, either…

New crackship fic idea I came up with earlier. AU where Starscream attempts to seduce Pharma into joining the cons. They knew each other before the war, but it’s not exactly an advantage. Starscream found Pharma dull and uninteresting. In return Pharma considered Screamer arrogant and vain. The more snarky and resistant Pharma proves to his recruitment methods the more Starscream wants him and Pharma just might actually like the attention, feeling unappreciated by his fellow Autobots.

I like it!  I think it would be really interesting to see how Pharma responded to an approach from the Decepticons that didn’t come along with threats, that was just the pure headiness of being wanted – and appreciated for himself – at a time when Pharma felt particularly ignored.  And I can absolutely see Starscream becoming obsessed with figuring out how to pull this one Autobot’s levers.
